The Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) is a group of development agencies with mandates that include the environment, health, education, architecture, culture, microfinance, rural development, disaster reduction, the promotion of private-sector enterprise and the revitalization of historic cities. AKDN agencies conduct their programmes without regard to faith, origin or gender and have decades of experience in integrating economic, social and cultural development.

AKDN is the largest network of its kind focused on alleviating poverty and improving opportunities for the poorest among us. AKDN agencies operate primarily within vulnerable communities in South and Central Asia, Eastern and Western Africa, and the Middle East.  AKDN is therefore well placed to deliver sustainable, long-term solutions to help communities who have suffered the most from human and natural disaster in recent times.

AKDN agencies combine their expertise and experience with a collective vision to build institutions using an integrated approach to development. This is central to achieving long- lasting results, creating sustainable institutions and reducing dependence on external development assistance.

AKDN and its agencies actively seek to co-operate with like-minded institutions in the design, implementation and funding of innovative development projects. Individual AKDN agencies also work closely with local, state and national governments in each country in which they are active.
